Tourist Information about Seville
The monumental Andalusian capital is somehow the cultural heart of Andalusia, the bullfighting and Flamenco world centre. Only 219 km from Malaga, this sunny city is one of the favourite tourist destinations and was the venue for the 1992 universal exposition (EXPO). Phoenicians and Carthaginians appreciated the warm climate and the fertility of these lands. Later, Romans settled here and left their mark in the city. Seville has always been a city of important figures. Here Don Juan captured women’s hearts, Christopher Columbus undertook his trip to the New World near Seville and the real Carmen, from Bizet’s opera, worked in the old tobacco factory in Seville.
The most important monuments are located in the historical center of the city, “Santa Cruz” district. After a stroll in the flowery old Moorish district, you can find the gothic cathedral, which is the third largest in the world; its belfry is nowadays a symbol of the city. Close to it you can find the Alcázar Royal Palace, and the “Archivo de Indias”, a Reinassance in which are filed the documents about the Discovery of America.
The huge “Maria Luisa” park and its facilities invite you to take a pleasant stroll.
The “Semana Santa” (Holy Week) and its well-known processions, and the Seville fair, are also two unforgettable experiences for the visitors.
