Tourist Information about Jerez
Jerez de la Frontera is the largest city in the Cadiz province; it is 219 Km northwest from Malaga and 12 km from the coast. This city’s importance especially increased after the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus. Jerez is since the 19th century the Sherry wine production centre. Many wine cellars invite tourists to visit them and taste this wonderful wine. Jerez is also where many Andalusian horses are raised. In the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, which is in a 19th century palace, fantastic equestrian shows take place.
The 18th century cathedral and the 12th century Alcázar, which is surrounded by the ruins of an Arab wall, are also worth a visit.
Only 25 km west from Jerez is the Doñana National Park. This 77,000 hectares park is a paradise for migratory birds and nature lovers.
Motorcycling lovers can also enjoy the Motorcycling World Championship that takes places in Jerez every two years.
