Tourist Information about Granada

Granada is only 125 km northeast from Malaga and the Alhambra, which has been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is without a doubt the most outstanding spot in Andalusia.

Here you can notice the heritage of some Moorish governors, that is part of the oriental style of the city. In the 800 years that went by between the Arab conquest in the year 711 until the Catholic Monarchs reconquest, the city thrived in arts, culture and architecture. The Moorish district Albaycín and the Alhambra, often known as the eighth wonder of the world, are an amazing legacy of that period. The Moorish palace, located at the top of a hill, and the beautiful Generalife gardens, are like a fairy tale for the visitor and fascinate him with their complex reliefs, geometric shapes and majestic columns.

But Christians also left their mark in the city. The imposing Santa María de la Encarnación cathedral, in which are the Catholic Monarchs tombs, is the most beautiful Renaissance church in the Iberian Peninsula.

The province of Granada is also very charming: no other region offers so many contrasts. In which other place can you ski and go for a swim in the Mediterranean Sea in the same day?

Granada, which is characterized by a warm and pleasant climate near the coast and a cool mountain climate in Sierra Nevada, is a very popular tourist destination throughout the whole year. In winter, skiers visit the most southern ski resort in Europe; hikers enjoy the picturesque diversity and the wonderful Alpujarra routes in spring and autumn; and in summer, the idyllic beaches on the Tropical Coast are very appealing to swimmers.
